Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for a unanimous court swatted away the government’s claim that the Lutheran Church did not have the right to fire a “minister of religion” who, after six years of Lutheran religious training had been commissioned as a minister, upon election by her congregation. Lifelong monogamy was one of the distinctively Christian contributions to Western civilization. Socialists have attacked every aspect of the social order created around the lifelong, sexually exclusive union of a man and a woman. Same-sex marriage, the current hot button issue, is but one of many issues designed to turn marriage into a collection of individuals loosely stapled together by the state. The Left often uses the rhetoric of individual choice and liberty to advance this project. But the rhetoric is not the reality.
