Update: CA schools and SB 48 (LGBT history curriculum)

September 7th, 2011 23 comments

Back in July, the California legislature passed SB 48.  It mandates that all public schools must include positive discussions of the sexual orientations of transgender, bisexual, and gay Americans when teaching their contributions to history.  This includes rewriting text books and using supplemental discussion materials. Another coffin nail for US public education

California’s new gay-friendly curriculum raises questions about the future of government-run schools.

Earlier this month, the left-leaning California State Legislature overwhelmingly passed The FAIR Education Act (SB 48) and has sent the bill on Governor Jerry Brown for what will surely be a celebratory signing. The FAIR Education Act is the seventh sexual indoctrination law to teach the state’s children to regard homosexuality, transsexuality (sex-changes operations) and bisexuality as good and natural. This is another in an impressive string of legal victories by gay activists. On the other hand, it further fuels a growing national discontent with public education. Read more…

There will be a hearing next Wednesday, June 22, on SB 48–the bill that would require California schools to teach, not merely the accomplishments of historical figures, but their sexual preferences as well.  It would apply to students in kindergarten on up.

If you can’t attend the hearing, call your legislator.

Prop 8 Will Be Back in Court Monday Morning (June 13, 2011)

June 12th, 2011 24 comments

Proposition 8′s sponsors will be in court Monday morning to argue whether Judge Walker’s decision to overturn Prop 8 should be vacated on the basis that the long term same-sex relationship he is involved in (and was involved in at the time of the Prop 8 trial, but failed to disclose) constitutes a conflict of interest.

If you want to follow the hearing, and don’t mind going to the website of one of Prop 8′s opponents to do so, then you can find live updates at http://www.afer.org/june13 starting at 9:00am.

And in CA: Senate bill mandates gay history in schools

May 21st, 2011 83 comments

I found this news on the Women of Grace website:

LifeSiteNews.com is reporting that a proposed new law in California that recently passed out of Committee will mandate pro-gay indoctrination of all public school students by forcing the curricula to incorporate the contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. Known as SB 48, it was introduced by an openly homosexual state Senator, Mark Leno, and managed to pass the ten-member Education Committee last week by a 6-3 vote. The bill now moves to the Senate Judiciary Committee, where it will be considered in early April.  [Update:  the full California Senate passed the bill on April 14.]

The law, which is supposed to counter discrimination of homosexual youth, contains no opt-out provision for parents or teachers. If passed, it will affect the curriculum for students as early as kindergarten…. Read more…

In MA: “Reach kids…before it’s too late”

May 21st, 2011 40 comments

In an op-ed from the Boston Herald, we learn the following:

Pay attention parents! It’s spring. And before you know it, Massachusetts public schools will begin their yearly sex-ed lessons for kids as young as 5.

Of course, they won’t call it “sex ed.” They’ll call it “health.” But a rose by any other name is still a rose….

Indeed, when specifically asked why the school presents lessons on HIV in the third grade, rather than in middle school, one school administrator made this shocking admission:

“The goal is to reach kids before they absorb their parents’ values. By middle school it’s too late.” (emphasis added)

It seems the editors of Mississauga News Magazine are utterly incensed that the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board near Ontario, Canada would not allow a student to form an official Gay/Striaght Alliance club at one of their secondary schools:

The nerve! This is a human rights issue and the Catholic board is coming out — excuse the term — on the wrong side of the argument.

Yeah, yeah… How dare those bigoted, homophobic, hate-mongering Christians manage their own schools according to their own religious precepts?

The editors of the Mississauga News are not the only self-appointed culture police to swing into action:

from LifeSiteNews.com:
In response, NDP [New Democratic Party] education critic Rosario Marchese called on Premier Dalton McGuinty to force GSAs into the Catholic boards, and the homosexual lobby group Egale denounced the board and the authentically-Catholic group Courage in a March 22 open letter to the Ontario government.

Well then, how about this? What if that same Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board were to show that they are not ‘anti-gay’ in some other way?:

from LifeSiteNews.com:
At an equity conference next month, Ontario’s Dufferin-Peel Catholic school board will feature several homosexual activists including one gay magazine reporter who covered the 2010 Toronto Pride Parade, with video showing him gleefully interviewing various Pride participants, including men dressed in sado-masochistic thongs. After Same-Sex ‘Marriage’ the Sky’s the Limit

March 31st, 2011 5 comments

LGBTweekly.com:
The Irish edition of tabloid news magazine The Sun recently covered the story of Penny Lawrence, a 28-year-old woman suffering from Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) who is now pregnant with her father’s child.

If you seriously don’t think there are folks waiting in the wings for same-sex ‘marriage’ to set the legal precedent they need to make what is described above legal – along with absolutely anything else you could imagine – then check out a website called Full Marriage Equality. (They refer to this father and daughter’s relationship as “consanguinarmory”.)

Only One Side of This Debate Has the Right to Freedom of Speech…

Remember when our universities were places where civil discourse was sacred?

Take a look at this video. Read the article while you’re at it.

And yet the advocates of same-sex ‘marriage’ keep assuring us that nobody’s civil rights will have to be abridged for them to have their way.

Diversity, Dignity, and My Daughter

An anti-bullying program’s political slant leads one mother to reflect on the real meaning of diversity and dignity.

When I pulled my minivan up to the curb of the school sidewalk, my daughter, instead of saying the customary prolonged goodbye to her 4th-grade classmates while I look on rather impatiently, approached the van door without the slightest hesitation, waving a bright yellow paper. As soon as she opened the door, she exclaimed excitedly that a day-long field trip to a local college was planned and all I had to do was sign the permission slip so she could go. I asked her what they were going to do at the college. She hesitated for a second as she looked down at the paper in her hands and said that they were going to learn about bullying awareness. Since there had been many incidents of bullying at the school during the past year, I was hardly surprised to hear this. And I was relieved that the school was trying to address the problem. Homosexual Couple Files Complaint Against Dallas Morning News

March 8th, 2011 70 comments

OK, is this not a full frontal attack on our right to freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and even our freedom of religion, even freedom of thought, no less? Have the advocates of same-sex so-called ‘marriage’ not always vowed that would never happen? But are they not now demanding that everyone else (especially newspapers) call their relationship a ‘marriage’ just because they say that’s what it is, whether or not any of the rest of us happen to think it is so?

Reed-Walkup and Walkup, and that is not a law firm, tried to pay the Dallas Morning News to run a wedding announcement. Officials with the paper, citing the legal status — or rather illegal status — of same-sex marriages in Texas, said, no, no thanks but the announcement can run under the heading “Commitments.” Read more…

So Now It’s Going To Be Collusive Litigation By Obama, Is It?

March 3rd, 2011 4 comments

From the FRC article:

As the president of the Family Research Council (FRC), an organization that has filed amicus briefs defending both Proposition 8 and DoMA, I am troubled by the lightning-fast integration of concepts and actual language from the Attorney General Letter into the Motion to Vacate Stay. Let me repeat: the Motion was filed within two-and-one-half hours of Attorney General’s press conference. Consequently, I am deeply concerned that officials at the Department of Justice were collaborating with the litigants in the Proposition 8 case. Even the appearance of collusion between the Department of Justice and litigants is highly damaging to the rule of law in America.

Students Have Right to Wear ‘Be Happy, Not Gay’ T-Shirt, 7th Circuit Appeals Court Rules

March 3rd, 2011 11 comments

ABAjournal.com:
The school argued (and still argues) that banning “Be Happy, Not Gay” was just a matter of protecting the ‘rights’ of the students against whom derogatory comments are directed. But people in our society do not have a legal right to prevent criticism of their beliefs or even their way of life.

So they needed a court to explain that citizens don’t have “…a legal right to prevent criticism of their beliefs or even their way of life…”, huh?

Well I’m just glad we got that cleared up.

British court rules couple too Christian to care for kids

March 1st, 2011 26 comments

How often have we all heard pro same-sex so-called ‘marriage’ folks vehemently insist that Christians will not have to be politically or socially marginalized for them to get their way.

And yet this is happening in Great Britain where, if I’m not mistaken, same-sex ‘marriage’ isn’t even recognized yet – just civil unions.

On another site, this story was aptely titled Christianity isn’t dying, it’s being eradicated.

Gender-neutral parent titles scratched

Here’s an update.

by Charlie Butts

Had Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s amendment been approved, passports would have instead listed “mother or parent 1″ and “father or parent 2″ in order to accommodate homosexuals who are raising children.

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) tells OneNewsNow the proposal, although short-lived, represents another marker in society’s decline. Read more…

Radio Derb: Don’t Trust the SPLC

December 7th, 2010 23 comments

The Southern Poverty Law Center (I was going to attempt a comment here, but I just can’t stop shaking my head…).  So, here’s Radio Derb:

In case you hadn’t noticed, let me bring to your attention the current big push by a mass of leftist groups acting together to shame out of public life all criticism of homosexuality. The so-called Southern Poverty Law Center is out in front of the effort. This nest of crooks, whose financial and ethical shenanigans have been exposed innumerable times, starting with their hometown newspaper, the Montgomery Advertiser, in 1994, this gang of thieves is still being held up by our left-wing media as an unimpeachable authority on who should or should not be accepted as respectable contributors to public debate. Podcasting Update

August 30th, 2010 8 comments

There are a few more podcasts up for your listening pleasure–one from our recent “It Takes a Family” conference, and the other two are interviews of Dr J on Issues, Etc.

Dr J gave the opening talk at ITAF 2010; entitled Marriage and Freedom in Society, it discusses what marriage does for society and some of the consequences (especially those relating to children) if we choose to dissolve or weaken it.  Some of the areas she covers include divorce law, state intervention, and parenthood.

The two Issues, Etc interviews discuss the response to Judge Walker’s attitude about the Prop 8 case (Shot in the Arm…or the Foot?) and another group of Mama Grizzlies, this one opposed to Sarah Palin (Sarah Palin vs. Mama Grizzlies).  Dr J’s exposition on the arrogance of both subjects is excellent.
