Proposed Bill Would Ban Abortions That Stop a Beating Heart

March 5th, 2011 Comments off

From The Columbus Dispatch:
Members of the House Health Committee watched silently in a packed hearing room yesterday as ultrasounds were given to two pregnant women. The fetal heartbeats were played through speakers while any movement was shown on a large projector screen. Read more…

44 Years of Failure to Protect Women

March 3rd, 2011 5 comments

One of the greatest media hoaxes of the 20th century is The Reproductive Healthcare Movement’s concern for social justice & women’s safety

Also from the article:

…history has proven this to be completely false! After 1967-73 most abortionists simply moved out from the back alley onto Main St. and little has changed to help make surgical abortion anymore safe since Roe vs. Wade.

Save Baby Joseph!

March 1st, 2011 23 comments

I’m just curious to know how some of our commenters feel about this situation.

February 26, 2011–There’s an 18-month-old baby boy in Canada who is about to be put to death by the Canadian government. I’m writing to you today so that you can help Priests For Life save this baby’s life if possible.

Here’s the situation … The baby, who is known as Baby Joseph, is suffering from a critical condition that requires him to have a breathing tube in order to stay alive.
However, the Canadian government has decided that they don’t want to spend any more money on Baby Joseph to keep him alive. Read more…

Pro-Life Flash Mob in Chicago Surprises “Walk for Choice”

You have to see this. (Be sure to watch the video.)

The question at the end of LifeNews.com’s article says it all: “Which side has more joy?

(For the storm troopers who besieged NOM’s Summer for Marriage Tour at every stop last July and August: This is how to do a counter demonstration people! Don’t intimidate, be non-threatening, don’t charge the opposing rally’s stage, stand off and respect the other assembly’s right to free speech, and above all else, do it with joy – not hatred.)

By the way: Did you notice how young the overwhelming majority of the Pro-Life demonstrators were? They are the future, my friends.

If Abortion is Safer Than Childbirth, Then Explain Chile

February 28th, 2011 7 comments

There’s been some flak in the news lately about new abortion counseling guidelines issued by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

LifeNews.com:
The guidelines, which have already been panned for ignoring the link between abortion and breast cancer, contain other scientific flaws.

The guidelines say “Women should be advised that abortion is generally safer than continuing a pregnancy to term,” even though abortion comes with a host of medical and mental health concerns and has been found to cause more problems for women than childbirth. Read more…

What is an ‘unbortion’?

February 20th, 2011 19 comments

From theweek.com:

A Catholic medical center is providing a way for women, seeking second-trimester abortions, to actually stop the procedure and keep the baby.

At the pregnancy center where I used to do volunteer work many (probably most) of the women working there are members of the PASS (Post Abortion Stress Syndrome) support group. Most pregnancy centers sponsor PASS support groups and, regrettably, such groups are ‘thriving’ in terms of membership. Read more…

Pictures sent to us from San Francisco Walk for Life

February 1st, 2011 1 comment

Hi Dr. Morse!

Here are some of our pictures from the Walk.  We had a record number of Stanford students/affiliates attend this year.  We absolutely love this event!  It’s truly inspiring to see all the support our righteous cause has, especially from other young people.  Thank you for all you do!

Best,

Kathryn

UPDATE: Four Years in a Row, No Story on the March for Life in D.C.

January 28th, 2011 6 comments
By Clay Waters

While tiny left-wing protests often garner significant news coverage in the Times, the paper for the last two years has completely ignored in print the large March for Life that takes place in Washington every January on the anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade making abortion legal.

Before the Monday march, the Times contented itself with a single sentence in a blog post Saturday night by Ashley Southall about Obama flashing his pro-choice credentials, “Obama Marks Anniversary of Roe v. Wade.” The quote marks suggest Southall even flubbed the name of the rally (it’s “March for Life,” not “Right to Life”), a small sign of the media’s general ignorance of the conservative movement.

The president’s statement came as anti-abortion demonstrators began arriving in Washington for a “Right to Life” rally on Monday, marking the 38th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade. Read more…

Repeal is Job #1

January 28th, 2011 3 comments

by Michael J. New

Repealing health care is the next fight in the battle for life.

As pro-lifers return from this week’s March for Life in Washington, DC, there exist plenty of reasons for optimism.  In recent years pro-lifers have made impressive gains in the court of public opinion.  These gains have been the largest among America’s youth and the media reports of the March will undoubtedly express surprise at the number of students who were in attendance. Furthermore, even though recent statistics indicate that abortions increased slightly in 2008, the overall numbers have dropped by nearly 25 percent since the early 1990s. These are all good signs.  Unfortunately, amidst all this sunny news, one development from 2010 has the ability to undermine much of the hard fought progress the pro-life movement has made since the Roe v. Wade decision. That is, of course, this last spring’s passage of Obamacare. Read more…

Finding fresh angles at March for Life

Watch this video: Media Malpractice

The 38th annual March for Life was held today, an event for which media coverage is always a contentious topic. The video embedded here is something that came out from a pro-life group after some of the media coverage of last year’s march. As such, the language is rather partisan. But I highlight it to show what, exactly, pro-lifers complain about. Others argue that these complaints are such an annual rite themselves that maybe pro-life leaders should take some of the blame for their public relations problems. Read more…

In-Person Report from the March for Life in DC

January 25th, 2011 1 comment

Friend of Ruth, Steve Hicks, sends this report from the March for Life in DC.

Cute Girls from the Archdiocese of Omaha

Jan 24 2011 – Wash DC

It may have well been called the “youth march” for life!  I don’t know what the numbers were yet, but I stood and listened to the youth bagpipe band playing on the curb of Constitution Avenue while I watched 4 lanes of mostly teens and young adults pass by for at least a half hour.  It was staggering.  A tsunami of pro-life youth.

Earlier that morning the VERIZON Center (capacity for basketball game is around 20,000, JRM) was full and 10000 more we at the US Armory attending the morning Youth Mass.

The night before saw The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception packed into the side aisles with youth for a heavenly polyphonic sung Mass, with an endless line of seminarians and priests in a procession that seemed to last forever.

(Buy the DVD on EWTN.com to find out how long for sure!) Then the Crypt of the Basilica hosted an all night vigil for life.

Wow.  My bones needed to sleep.

No wonder there was so much young energy on display in defense of the unborn.  All manner of chants and high school cheers were shouted with sheer joy.

One group that looked like a hundred kids on the steps alongside Constitution Ave. cheering:

 Who do we want!? Babies!?

How do we want them!? Alive!

What do we need to do?! Save their lives!

How are we gonna do it?! Thru prayer and sacrifice!!!

 Amen AMDG Steve

The Pro-life Movement is a Youth Movement: Part 1

January 22nd, 2011 1 comment

Friends of Ruth, Friends of Life

If you attend any marches or rallies this weekend, send us your photos! I am especially interested in photos of young people at the marches. The mainstream media barely cover these events at all, and never seem to mention that the pro-life movement marches are filled with people under twenty.

These Friends of Ruth are doing their part to lower the average age at last year’s West Coast Walk for Life. (We weren’t able to go this year. Wahhh!)

A simple pro-life project

January 22nd, 2011 9 comments

This weekend, pro-lifers are commemorating the tragic anniversary of Roe v Wade.  The Catholic Bishops have urged people to pray, fast, do penance. And they have urged the clergy to preach on pro-life themes.  Here is a simple pro-life project anyone of any religion, can do.  If your clergy preach on pro-life themes, this weekend or any time, send them a thank you note.  The clergy often get grief from parishoners for preaching on life themes.  Counter-balance that negativity with some positive encouragement.

Here is what I wrote tonight:

Dear Deacon Frank,

I just want to thank you for the eloquent homily your preached this evening.  We need to hear more often about the sanctity of human life and about how abortion has contributed to the coarsening of our culture. I really appreciate your reference to the Gospel of Life (a 1995 encyclical by Pope John Paul II, JRM.) Thank you and keep up the good work.

Your friend,

Jennifer Roback Morse

See how easy! Regular Ruth Readers: Don’t miss an opportunity to catch the clergy doing something right!
