The Chick-fil-A Kerfluffle: Dan Cathy Supports Traditional Families, and this Harms Whom, Exactly?
As usual, the Left is up in arms over somebody supporting traditional families, as if supporting traditional families is a crime. This time, their culprit is Dan Cathy, the President and COO of Chick-fil-A.
The reality is that there is NOTHING bigoted about his support of traditional families. Here’s the quote from his interview with the Baptist Press:
Some have opposed the company’s support of the traditional family. “Well, guilty as charged,” said Cathy when asked about the company’s position.
“We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.
“We operate as a family business … our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that,” Cathy emphasized.
“We intend to stay the course,” he said. “We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”
The Left insists that this is anti gay; their rhetoric leads unsuspecting people to believe that Cathy’s position harms gays as individuals. They are wrong. Cathy’s position harms nobody. But they can sure generate a lot of page views, website hits, comments, and animosity by insisting it does.
The hypocrisy goes even further: the are not for all families. Cathy’s efforts to support families count for nothing on the Left, unless they are sufficiently “inclusive.” The Lifestyle Left is not happy unless you do something for their favorite “alternative family forms.” Help traditional families? Forget it. Doesn’t count. By casting Cathy as a villain, the Lifestyle Leftists have shown their true colors: they hate traditional families and anybody who supports them.
It bears repeating: Cathy’s position harms nobody. Remember this next time you see a headline exclaiming his “anti-gay” stance.
