Tax payers still funding abortions. But abortuaries are closing.

The number of abortion clinics in America continues to drop, but a mega-abortuary still receives government funding.

Operation Rescue has been tracking the number of America’s abortion clinics through its Project Daniel 5:25. The organization has recorded that two-thirds of them have shut down over the years. Since last December, another five clinics have closed their doors, leaving the number of abortuaties totaling at 710.

Despite that decline, Operation Rescue spokesman and president Troy Newman notes that developments at Planned Parenthood are still troubling. “Even though the number of abortion clinics continues to drop, Planned Parenthood is the only abortion enterprise that’s opening clinics,” he reports. “And the reason for that, we believe, is because of the millions and millions of dollars of public funds that are pumped into their coffers from taxpayer dollars.” 

Those government funds, he points out, continue to flow into the Planned Parenthood budget even though survey after survey has revealed that people do not want tax money used to finance abortion.

“Title X funds that Planned Parenthood receives cannot technically go to pay for abortions, but it pays for their light bill, it pays their mortgages, it pays the salaries, it pays their taxes, etcetera,” Newman explains. “And so it’s very easy, with a little accounting trick, to also pay for abortions — or at least subsidize them.”

Newman believes that defunding of Planned Parenthood — a step favored by 71 percent of Americans — would go a long way towards saving babies’ lives.
