"Contrary to some libertarians who woudl like to think that ssm represents a retreat of the state from civil society, the exact opposite is true. The state will assign itself the power to intervene in more and more areas of civil society, until it is satisfied that they have made everything equal."

I keep pointing this out, but some libertarians are immune. Their incomprehension of social forms of liberty makes them support SSM and also makes them blind to the consequences for the freedom of groups that won't go along with the proposed changes to society. This is a case where personal liberty is the enemy of political liberty.

Libertarians back some so-called progressive goals under the illusion that they, and not the progressives, will be running the show.
