Not a doctor? Provide abortions anyway

California Sen. Christine Kehoe (D) has introduced SB 1501, which would allow physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurse midwives to perform non-surgical abortions in the first trimester of pregnancy. Kehoe says she is proposing the bill because many California counties do not have abortion providers. But Greg Quinlan, founder and president of theĀ Pro-Family Network, warns that this push could prove dangerous for women.
“To have non-professionals perform these abortion procedures, regardless of how they’re done, is a slap in the face to the medical professional community,” he contends. “I believe that that would actually fly in the face of most laws, regulations, and policies talking about these non-surgical abortion procedures in the first trimester.”
