Excellent follow-up, Jennifer. I watched the show and continually felt conflicted because I knew these children were born as the result of fertility drugs. I have had several friends who have used drugs to get pregnant, you are so right! The mom usually becomes obsessed with achieving pregnancy, and many even admit it becomes a conquest and feels unnatural but once they become pregnant feel like it was worth it and feel vindicated that science helped them achieve "the impossible". Goes back to the statement: just because we can doesn't mean we should.

I did a podcast on this situation a few weeks ago. Another factor in the mix: these are all ART babies. One thing that often tracks is the narcissism of the mother: the kids are HER project. She is ENTITLED to have babies. The man is along for the ride. The best he can hope for is to be an Assistant Mom, not a real dad. The people who interviewed me were stunned when I told them that I have never seen this show. I just made that observation as a general point about how ART moves us from Pro-Creation, which suggests a cooperation with the Creator, who is in fact in charge, to Re-Production, which suggests the making of a product which is a likeness of the Self.

I agree that parents should have to take the good of the children into account. Wouldn't it be better in some cases for the parents to make the sacrifice of suffering together, since they are the adults who got themselves into the situation in the first place, then for the children to suffer the consequences? And why should children have to pay the price for failure of "mature" adults?
But the way I understand it is that Jon cheated on Kate. He got tired of the family obligations and walked out. Regardless of who started it though the laws of our country punish the innocent children.

Oh, now I see why it wasn't showing up. It was awaiting moderation. Sorry! Feel free to delete my last two comments. (I'm technologically challenged!)

I left a comment earlier, and I don't know what happened to it. If this one disappears, I'm going to really start to get a complex!

There are some inaccuracies to this article. Kate did not desire this divorce. She has stated repeatedly that she's not in favor of it and would take "the old Jon" back in a heartbeat. Not that I'm trying to minimize her behavior that contributed to the breakdown of their relationship...

This isn't a 100% accurate picture of what happened with Jon and Kate. Kate didn't say she was done with Jon. She has said many times that she would like to try to work things out with him, and that she's opposed to the idea of divorce. (I'm not trying to say that she's an innocent victim, because clearly she's made a lot of mistakes along the way that contributed to the breakdown of her marriage.)
